EDIT: This might have been just a silly April Fool's joke, but I hope it exposed you to some new tools in Photoshop that you haven't used before! Both the gradient tool and selective color adjustment layers are things that I do use a lot! Just not quite to this extent of course :)

Welcome to a CV project that has been years in the making. YES! Even before we knew we would be volunteers--ages before we even knew DeviantArt existed--we were working on this collection of tutorials to bring only the most refined and technologically advanced methods to your interweb doorstep.

Today, I, Queen-Kitty, will be assisting you so that you can achieve SUPER artistic FASHION editing on your very own fashion photographs! :D I know you are super excited, because this tutorial has been a long time coming! Thankfully, many of the CVs, including myself, decided to release this extra special "Learn This!" series which is full of amazing and free exclusive tutorials today just for you!

Ok, so these are relatively new techniques even for me, but I have full confidence in myself to get them right, so you too can be a fashion editing master! You do need a basic understanding of photoshop and layers, including the fancy adjustment ones to understand this informative tutorial though, so keep that in mind.

So first off, this is the photo we will be starting with.  I mean, it's kinda plain, we need to JAZZ it up! Fashion is nothing without artificial enhancement. Did you think fashion photos were like real? Too bad, you've been fooled, but that's ok because I'll show you just how to solve the bane of being natural.

The first step will be to open up Photoshop and then open up your very own fashion photo to work on! We're going to zoom in a little so we can check out those natural details and further decide how to alleviate them.

The next thing you'll do is duplicate your photo layer, so you can switch back and forth and see what a fantastic job you're doing.  Then, you'll click on filter > blur > gaussian blur. You'll want to set the radius high enough to really blur out those pesky natural details.  I've chosen 8.3 pixels, but if your photo is a larger file, you might need to use a larger radius.  I've chosen to use a small file, because pixelation can be very high fashion if printed on a large scale.

So, once you click on ok, you're going to see a very nice looking start, lots of vague details that almost suggest a model in an environment if viewed from afar. BUT, we can't just leave it like this. I know what you're thinking,"well, why not? It looks hella good!!" But if you've been studying fashion photography for very long, you'll know the clothes are VERY important and you do need a little bit of that natural detail.

So, we're going to create a layer mask on that top layer and brush off some of the blur.  Remember to use a hard edged brush on a low opacity.  I'm using 50%, because it seemed like a trendy number.

I also decided to brush off a little of the blur on the model's face.  She looks good, so it's very important for your audience to see her.  Plus, we don't want the makeup artists and hair stylists on our team to get ticked off. No sirree. This is what we've got so far:

BUT, guess what?? We're not done yet.  Did you think creating super artistic fashion photographs was THAT easy? No way, artistic fashion photographs take time and patience and love and an expert photoshop education. The next step for our lovely photo (:happycry: it looks so good right now) is to make a gradient adjustment layer set to radial.  These are super helpful in creating atmosphere for your photos.  I've chosen a really nice artificial purple to yellow fade to accent my photo. This gradient won't look good on all photos though.  Some other suggested gradient colors are red + green, blue + orange, and hot pink + turquoise.

You're going to set this adjustment layer to hard light to give it an electric glowing effect.  It's like she's in a club, and clubs are SO fashionable :D You're going to want to duplicate this adjustment layer a few times for maximum glowing artistic effect.

This final step is VERY important and will really give your photo wow factor. Make a selective color adjustment layer and go to "blacks" on the dropdown list.  I've set mine to Cyan= -36, magenta= +68, and yellow= -100, and just WOW. Obviously you're finished now, because it couldn't get better than this.
