On the last day of 2013, kamakebelieve and I got together for a little bit of a road trip. From a wedding portrait session for a bride and groom, we came across a really wonderful location that seemed much more exciting than our usual Florida locations! A giant hill and a little country road seemed like the perfect background for a shoot. We had even bigger dreams to go even farther out into the countryside, but since since some of our party had to get home earlier, we "settled" for the hill location. We didn't have a solid idea together of what we were going to do with styling, so I told Kaylin that I would just bring a big suitcase of vintage from my closet, and I told Kaylin to bring her vintage Doc Martens, since I could envision soft styling with the grunginess of the softer vintage clothes I had. She also brought two petticoats, one of them mine, that she had used on a shoot a few days beforehand. Going in my closet, I remembered the two Gunne Sax dresses that I had bought on my California trip, and since there were two, they seemed like the perfect thing to bring. I had also bought some little bralettes from Forever 21 a few weeks beforehand for shoots, so those went in the suitcase too. While shooting, neither of us had solid ideas in mind of what we wanted to achieve, we were just going out to have fun! We joke that Emily and Brooke are our muses, but really it's pretty true! I've worked with Brooke a lot, and Kaylin has worked with Emily a lot. So, all together, we were kind of a dream team of sorts! The word that kept playing through my mind when shooting that day was freedom, both in a conceptual sense and also in a sense that I felt like I was finally shooting what I had been craving! When our final stop for the day was an abandoned house, the story started clicking together in my mind. The house shots had a sadness to them and a longing for something new, so they became the beginning of the series, and the other two sets were about the girls' escape from their home into the beautiful countryside! The overcast weather made for perfect soft and consistent lighting throughout the day, and all of us had so much fun working together that it was definitely a hit! Since I had so many cute outtakes and behind the scenes from the day, I figured I would limit the actual photos from the shoot in this post and show off those instead! So, I won't put the whole series in this post, but feel free to find them in my gallery and see them all!
And now for the Behind the Scenes and Outtakes!
And...there's Brooke taking iphone shots of the Polaroids from the day!
And that's a wrap! Be sure to check out kamakebelieve 's gallery for her photos from the day as well!
15 Under 50 Feature 19
Well, well, well. Here we are 4 months after the last edition of 15 under 50, oops. BUT, here's some extra pretty art to make up for that ;)
15 Under 50 Feature 18 + Update
I'm back with another edition of 15 under 50! Its been a weird last couple of months personally, filled with both wonderful and uh not so wonderful things. I've been trying my best to get in a better place mentally this year, and some days I feel as though I'm truly making it. I feel like me, productive and filled with joy for the small things but others just oof. I'm really struggling with brain fog, I'm not sure if its a result of having covid in January or simply the amount of anxiety and grief I've dealt with this year. I tend towards the latter because it does seem to lift when I'm doing better. My coping skills have (unfortunately for my bank account) turned back towards collecting and I have a really nice vinyl collection now as well as too many books to fit on my bookshelves, oops! Towards the end of October, there was an incident where I had to call the cops because two young men were at the end of my driveway yelling hateful things and then *coincidentally* like 30 minutes
September-November 2023 DD Roundup
Trying to get back onto a DD feature roll, it's not happening yet, but I've already scheduled 4 DDs for December, so that's something. Hope you enjoy the art I've featured over the last few months! Also, one that the artist set to watchers only after I featured it: https://www.deviantart.com/osphilia/art/Zoe-by-Julien-Sunye-on-www-OSPHILIA-CO-968473642
Spooky or Sweet?
I wanted to share some lovely Autumnal pieces I've come across recently - some spooky and some sweet (and a few that I would argue are both)! Autumn is my favorite season, and we've finally gotten a couple of cooler mornings recently that have really put me in the mood - for Fall that is. I hope you enjoy  I have a couple more fun things to share soon!
